What is Foraminal Stenosis?
When the disc space in the spine is narrowed it is called Foraminal Stenosis. This condition is due to a joint in the vertebrae becoming enlarged. It mainly affects the cervical spine, however can occur in the lumbar spine also. The main symptom of Foraminal Stenosis is pain developing over time, usually relating to a specific activity or positioning such as in riding a bike, or extending the neck. If the stenosis is in the lumbar spine, leg pain and weakness is often experienced. If the cervical spine stenosis is accompanied with myelopathy (compression of the spinal cord and nerves), then difficulties in coordination can occur.
What are the treatment options?
Diagnosis of Foraminal Stenosis is done by MRI or CT scan with myelogram. Pain treatment with medications can offer some symptomatic relief however will not rectify the condition. Traction allows the spinal column to separate the spinal joints and align the spine with the hips and shoulders, correcting any postural deviations that may be causing the stenosis. Surgery is a last resort option and includes an anterior cervical discectomy and spinal fusion. This is where the disc is removed completely, and the disk space opened to allow more room for the nerve root. A bone graft is then left where the disk used to be to keep it open.
Can Nubax Trio help with Foraminal Stenosis?
Nubax Trio aids in providing axial decompression to the spine. By allowing more space in between the disks, the nerve roots aren’t being compressed and the resulting pain is eased. By releasing tension in the muscles surrounding the spinal column, the Nubax Trio can offer long term pain relief from back pain associated with Foraminal Stenosis
